Police aided in arrest of 3 burglary suspects

An alert citizen helped South District police arrest three burglary suspects accused of kicking in the glass door of a gas station-convenience store and stealing three cartons of cigarettes overnight Thursday.
The citizen, who drove by the Stop- N-Gas on Hopkins Street, near Tifft Street, reported seeing three men kicking and breaking out the glass door at about 11 p. m. Thursday night. Three cartons and four packs of cigarettes were taken in the burglary, police said.
A few hours later, South District Officers Michael Moore and Lance Woods stopped a vehicle fitting the same description and found what appeared to be the stolen cigarettes in the vehicle.
The officers charged Nicholas Pilla, 32; Joseph Galioto, 31; and James Kukavica, 33, with burglary, petit larceny and criminal mischief, according to police.
